kaya may kasabihan nga Everybody is unique

Relative Effectiveness of Expository and Field Trip Methods of Teaching on Students' Achievement in Ecology
ABSTRACT
The study was a pre‐test treatment post‐test control design. Three educational districts from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria were treated as clusters. Twenty boys and 20 girls were randomly selected, making up a total of 40 students, in each of Group A, Group B, and Group C. Students in Group A were taught ecology by taking them to the school farm, pond, and nearby stream, while students in Group B were taught ecology strictly in the classroom. Students in Group C were not taught but have knowledge of ecology. Findings of the study revealed a highest performance of Group A relative to Group B and Group C. Students in Group A (field trip) were thus able to perform highest because of their opportunity of having first‐hand experience of organisms in their natural habitat.

ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT
This study attempted to determine the correlation between some selected variables and the reading proficiency of the Grade Four Pupils of Aurora East District, Aurora Zamboanga del Sur, School Year 2006 - 2007.
By and large it was found out that the competence of the teacher to teach reading matters much to the academic performance of the pupils.
Also, the more desirable the attitudes of the pupils towards reading, the lesser reading problems they have and the higher their reading proficiency level would be.
Home, school, and community related problems altogether, somehow affect the reading proficiency of the pupils.
Reading problems in this study are found to have a high positive correlation with the reading proficiency of the pupils. Pupils who have lesser reading problems are more likely to achieve higher reading proficiency level.
This study recommends that there must be strong collaboration among teachers, community and the pupils as well to achieve high levels of proficiency in reading.

ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine the linguistics competence of the fourth year students of MSU-IIT Integrated Developmental School, AY 2004-2005.
It utilized two sets of questionnaires: one for the respondents‘ socio-educational background, and another for their grammatical/linguistics competence, which consisted of 200 items duly tested and tried out for validity and reliability prior to their administration to the entire population of the IDS.
The qualitative-quantitative method of research was used to describe and interpret the data. The results show that: a) generally, the female respondents performed better than the male ones, b) those with public elementary background performed better than those with private elementary background, c) readers of the books and magazines and watchers of English televisions programs and listeners of English radio programs did better than those who were not, and d) parents‘ combined monthly income and educational background could be instrumental to the respondents‘ linguistics competence. On the whole, the respondents‘ performance in the most aspects of the test clustered in the satisfactory level.
This study recommends that an action research on the effectiveness of an approach to teaching of functional grammar be conducted, and that in revising the English syllabus, the aspects where the respondents were deficient be given more weight. Further, it recommends that the so-called traditional method, which places emphasis on drills and grammatical structures, should be integrated in the communicative approach to teaching English as a second language.

The descriptive method of research is used with the questionnaire as its data gathering tool. The respondents involved 150 students. Simple frequency and percentage were in the study. Test of hypotheses were done using chi-square tools.
The salient findings of the study include the following. First, among the modern technology facilities, the respondents were very much exposed to cellular phones, compact discs, the Internet and television but were only moderately exposed to computer games. Second, the respondents had very poor literal level of reading comprehension.
They were also fair in interpretive and critical levels. As to creative and appreciative levels, the respondents were mostly on the satisfactory and fair levels of reading comprehension. Furthermore, exposure to modern technology facilities like cell phones, compact discs, computer games, the internet and television was found to be significantly related to students‘ literal, interpretive, creative and appreciative levels of comprehension. As recommendations, parents and teachers should emphasize to the students the wise use of modern technology facilities so that enhancement of their skills especially in reading will be promoted while the teachers should recognize the needs for the students to improve their different levels of reading comprehension.

ABSTRACT
This study limited its investigation to the learning and teaching styles of the
respondentsfrom the six collegesin La Salle University – Ozamiz. The descriptive
survey method was utilized in this study. The researchers administered the
survey questionnaire to 245 students and 58 teachers. The results of the study
establish that four (4) out of the six (6) colleges preferred most the verbal style
of learning. It was also noticed that the least preferred learning style of the three
(3) out of six (6) colleges is aural learning style. Furthermore, it was found that
the respondents from the six (6) colleges or 100% of the teachers who responded
the survey preferred most the logical teaching style. The teachers of the four
(4) colleges out of six (6) declared that aural and solitary teaching style is less
preferred by them. The researchers are able to verify that there is a slight mismatch
between the learning and teaching style of the students and teachers respectively.
However, the style of the teachers is also open for the verbal teaching style.ABSTRACT
Summary of Findings, Conclusion, and Recommendations
The researchers in this study found four (4) out of the six (6) colleges preferred most the verbal style of learning. This means Vol. 17 no.2 61 that the students who responded this survey learn more when words are used in speech or in written forms. It was also noticed that the least preferred learning style of the three (3) out of six (6) colleges is aural learning style. This means that the respondents learn less when they use sound or music.
Furthermore, it was found by the researchers in this study that the respondentsfrom the six (6) colleges or 100% of the teachers who responded the survey preferred most the logical teaching style. This is followed by the verbal teaching style which was favored most by five (5) out of six (6) colleges. The respondents of the four (4) colleges out of six (6) declared that aural and solitary teaching styles are less preferred by them.
In the context of the findings of this study the researchers are able to verify that there is a slight mismatch between the learning and teaching style of the students and teachers respectively. The most preferred learning style of the students is different from the teachers’ favored teaching style.
The students learn more when words are used or in other words they are verbal learners while the teachers in the six (6) colleges prefer to use reasoning and system or the logical teaching style; however, the style of the teachers is also open for the verbal teaching style.
With regard to the least preferred learning style of the respondents, the students and the teachers in one way meet their preferences. Though one of the least preferred styles of the teachers is solitary, both of them (students and teachers) preferred less the use of music and sound or the so called aural style.

Examining the Role of Birth Plans and Locus of Control in Childbirth Satisfaction
This study sought to determine how locus of control and adherence to birth plan impact women’s childbirth satisfaction. Satisfaction with childbirth has the potential to impact the mother’s health, relationship with her child, ability to breastfeed, and attitude toward future childbirth experiences (Goodman, Mackey & Tavakoli, 2003). Pregnant women were recruited to complete an extended prenatal and brief postpartum survey. Participants responded to a number of questionnaire measures and provided details about their desired birth scenario, and were then asked postpartum about their delivery outcomes.. It was predicted that women with an internal locus of control would have greater satisfaction with their birth than women with an external locus of control, and that women whose birth plans were not adhered to would be less satis fied than the women whose birth plans were adhered to, but this effect would be greater in women with an external locus of control. Significant differences were found in expectations for childbirth between women who did and did not plan to write birth plans and between women who planned to have natural or medicated deliveries. Postpartum analysis revealed a significant pattern between intended and actual birth mode. More data collection and analyses are necessary to further address the hypotheses of the study.

BULLYING AND VICTIMIZATION: SCHOOL CLIMATE MATTERS By Jennifer L. Elfstrom Bullying at school is prevalent in the United States and worldwide, but little is known about the relationship between students’ experiences with bullying and their perceptions of school climate.
This study investigated the link between bullying and three elements of school climate—social support from teachers, social support from peers, and school connectedness. The study used MANOVA analyses to confirm differences between students categorized as bullies, victims, bully-victims, and bystanders. Findings indicate that students who are not directly involved in bullying perceive more social support and school connectedness than all other students. Students who are bullied perceive less social support from peers than other students, while students who bully perceive less social support from teachers and connection to school than other students. Findings from this study support strategies to increase social support and school connectedness, as well as the meaningful involvement of both teachers and students in bullying prevention efforts.https://etd.ohiolink.edu/!etd.send_file?accession=miami1186089056&disposition=inline

Profiles of Bullying Victimization, Discrimination, Social Support, and School Safety: Links with Latino/a Youth Acculturation, Gender, Depressive Symptoms, and Cigarette Use. ONLINE ABSTRACT
Latino/a youth are at risk for symptoms of depression and cigarette smoking but this risk varies by acculturation and gender. To understand why some youth are at greater risk than others, we identified profiles of diverse community experiences (perceived discrimination, bullying victimization, social support, perceived school safety) and examined associations between profiles of community experience and depressive symptoms, cigarette smoking, acculturation, and gender. Data came from Project Red (Reteniendo y Entendiendo Diversidad para Salud), a school-based longitudinal study of acculturation among 1,919 Latino/a adolescents (52% female; 84% 14 years old; 87% U.S. born). Latent profile analysis (LPA) revealed 4 distinct profiles of community experience that varied by gender and acculturation. Boys were overrepresented in profile groups with high perceived discrimination, some bullying, and lack of positive experiences, while girls were overrepresented in groups with high bullying victimization in the absence and presence of other community experiences. Youth low on both U.S. and Latino/a cultural orientation described high perceived discrimination and lacked positive experiences, and were predominantly male. Profiles characterized by high perceived discrimination and /or high bullying victimization in the absence of positive experiences had higher levels of depressive symptoms and higher risk of smoking, relative to the other groups. Findings suggest that acculturation comes with diverse community experiences that vary by gender and relate to smoking and depression risk. Results from this research can inform the development of tailored intervention and prevention strategies to reduce depression and/or smoking for Latino/a youth. http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=buy.optionToBuy&id=2016-00321-003

ONLINE ABSTRACT
Bullying is a common experience for many school-aged youth, but the majority of bullying research and intervention does not address the content of bullying behavior, particularly teasing. Understanding the various forms of bullying as well as the language used in bullying is important given that bullying can have persistent consequences, particularly for victims who are bullied through biased-based bullying, such as being called gay, lesbian, or queer. This study examines bullying experiences in a racially and ethnically diverse sample of 3,379 rural elementary-, middle-, and high-school youth. We use latent class analysis to establish clusters of bullying behaviors, including forms of biased-based bullying. The resulting classes are examined to ascertain if and how bullying by biased-based labeling is clustered with other forms of bullying behavior. This analysis identifies 3 classes of youth: youth who experience no bullying victimization, youth who experience social and emotional bullying, and youth who experience all forms of social and physical bullying, including being bullied by being called gay, lesbian, or queer. Youth in Classes 2 and 3 labeled their experiences as bullying. Results indicate that youth bullied by being called gay, lesbian, or queer are at a high risk of experiencing all forms of bullying behavior, highlighting the importance of increased support for this vulnerable group.http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=buy.optionToBuy&id=2014-57192-007

ONLINE ABSTRACT
The nature and extent of bullying among school children is discussed, and recent attention to the phenomenon by researchers, the media, and policy makers is noted. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is a comprehensive, school-wide program that was designed to reduce bullying and achieve better peer relations among students in elementary, middle, and junior high school grades. Several large-scale studies from Norway are reviewed, which provide compelling evidence of the program’s effectiveness in Norwegian schools. Studies that have evaluated the OBPP in diverse settings in the United States have not been uniformly consistent, but they have shown that the OBPP has had a positive impact on students’ self-reported involvement in bullying and antisocial behavior. Efforts to disseminate the OBPP in Norway and the United States are discussed.http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=buy.optionToBuy&id=2010-13348-015
